The forthcoming Indian Hindi-language action film “Fighter 2024” is directed by Siddharth Anand and jointly produced by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. Starring Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, and Anil Kapoor, the movie marks the initiation of an anticipated aerial action franchise.

The project was officially revealed on January 10, 2021, with pre-production significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Principal photography commenced in November 2022, spanning various locations such as Assam, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, and Mumbai, concluding in late October. Real-life Indian Air Force cadets actively participated in the film.

The film’s soundtrack, featuring five songs, is composed by the duo Vishal–Shekhar, with Satchith Paulose serving as the cinematographer and DNEG handling the visuals.

Originally set for a theatrical release on September 30, 2022, “Fighter” experienced delays due to pandemic-related production challenges. The new release date is set for January 25, 2024, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend.

Development:

Siddharth Anand proposed the concept of a high-budget action thriller centered around fighter jets while filming “War” (2019). Hrithik Roshan, captivated by the premise, confirmed his involvement during the COVID-19 lockdown. The project was officially announced on Hrithik Roshan’s birthday, January 10, 2021. Positioned as India’s first aerial action film, “Fighter” is the inaugural installment in a planned franchise. The budget for the film is reported to be ₹250 crore.

Director Siddharth Anand expressed, “We have gone on a different level… It’s just impossible to make a film like this at the cost which we are making it at.” The film is crafted for a global audience, leveraging the latest technology and filming techniques.

Pre-production:

Ramon Chibb, a former army officer, collaborated with Anand to develop the story, with Akshay Oberoi noting heavier action scenes compared to “Pathaan” (2023). The team retained key technicians, including cinematographer Satchith Paulose and stunt choreographer SeYeong Oh. Hrithik Roshan underwent extensive training supervised by Kris Gethin, including simulator sessions and visits to Air Force bases.

Casting:

Officially announced in January 2021, Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan headline the film. Roshan portrays Patty, an air force officer, describing the character as “young, spontaneous, and short-tempered.” Both leads underwent martial arts training. Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Talat Aziz joined the cast in subsequent announcements.

Filming:

Principal photography commenced in Assam in November 2022, followed by schedules in Kashmir, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, concluding at Yash Raj Studios. The team diligently captured air force cadet training, emotional scenes, and intense action sequences. The extensive shoot spanned locations in India and Italy, completing principal photography by October 30, 2023.

Post-production:

Post-production, anticipated to span six months, includes extensive computer graphics and visual effects managed by DNEG.

Music:

The film’s soundtrack, composed by Vishal–Shekhar, comprises five songs, with T-Series securing the music rights.

Release:

“Fighter” is slated for release on January 25, 2024, coinciding with Republic Day. The initial release date of September 30, 2022, was revised to accommodate production delays.
