Overview: “Guntur Kaaram,” pronounced [ɡuntuːr kaːram], translating to “Spice of Guntur,” is an eagerly awaited Indian Telugu-language action drama film. Directed and written by Trivikram Srinivas and produced by S. Radha Krishna through Haarika & Hassine Creations, the film features a stellar cast, including Mahesh Babu, Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishna, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Brahmanandam.
Development and Filming: Initially announced in May 2021 under the working title SSMB28, the film officially embraced the name “Guntur Kaaram” in May 2023. Principal photography kicked off in September 2022, predominantly filmed in Hyderabad, and concluded by late December 2023. The movie boasts Thaman S’s musical compositions, Manoj Paramahamsa’s cinematography, and Naveen Nooli’s editing prowess.
Casting Chronicles: Pooja Hegde was initially cast as the lead opposite Mahesh Babu, marking their second collaboration after “Maharshi” (2019). However, due to scheduling conflicts, Hegde had to step back, paving the way for Sreeleela to take on the lead role. Meenakshi Chaudhary stepped into the second actress role originally designated for Hegde. The talented ensemble also includes Ramya Krishna, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, and Jagapathi Babu, each adding depth to the film’s narrative.
Filming Saga: Principal photography commenced with a thrilling action sequence in Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad, in September 2022. The first schedule, featuring high-octane stunts choreographed by the Anbariv duo, concluded that month. However, producers later confirmed the scrapping of the initial fight sequence. The second schedule, which started in January 2023 at Sarathi Studios, Hyderabad, saw the addition of a significant house set, constructed at the cost of ₹10 crore in Shankarpalli, Telangana. March welcomed Jayaram to the sets, with the second schedule wrapping up in April. Over 50% of the film was completed by this point.
A notable change occurred when cinematographer P. S. Vinod exited due to creative differences after shooting more than half the film. Manoj Paramahamsa was swiftly announced as his replacement, bringing his expertise to the project. The third schedule commenced in June, with principal photography concluding on December 28, 2023.
Release: “Guntur Kaaram” is set to spice up theaters worldwide on January 12, 2024, coinciding with the festive occasion of Sankranti. With its dynamic cast, captivating storyline, and a blend of action and family entertainment, the film promises an exhilarating cinematic experience for audiences.
