Netflix acquired the rights to Dan Kunka’s spec script, “Lift,” in March 2021, with Simon Kinberg’s Genre Pictures and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho signing on as producers. F. Gary Gray was enlisted to direct, and the multi-talented Kevin Hart was not only attached to star but also took on a producer’s role. Principal photography unfolded in Italy and Northern Ireland from February to May 2022, with specific scenes shot at Belfast’s Harbour Studios in March and at the picturesque Miramare Castle grounds in Trieste in late May.

Initially slated for release on August 25, 2023, “Lift” faced a delay due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike on the film’s promotional activities in the United States. The current release date is scheduled for January 12, 2024, exclusively on Netflix.
